Landscape Design & Planting in Frazer, PA

Landscape design that softens hardscape and completes the outdoor picture — beds, trees, screening, and seasonal color that finishes every pool and patio project.

Layered planting beds and mature trees framing a stone patio in a Frazer PA backyard
The single most common thing we're called to fix on other builders' pool and patio projects is not the hardscape. It's the missing landscape. A pool without planting around it looks like an installation. A pool tucked into layered beds, screened from the neighbor, framed by the right trees, and softened along every hard edge — that looks like it has always been there. For 18+ years we have been designing and installing landscapes across Frazer, Chester County, and the Main Line — as the final layer on our pool and hardscape projects, and as standalone landscape designs. ## What we design and plant - **Foundation planting** — the beds along the house that frame the front door and windows - **Pool surrounds** — clean-drop, low-mess planting close to the pool; drama and screening further out - **Screening** — evergreen or mixed screens to block neighbors, roads, or utility infrastructure - **Bed extensions** — layered ornamental beds, mixed borders, cutting gardens - **Trees** — canopy trees, ornamental trees, and specimens placed for shade, screening, or architecture - **Turf and lawn** — sod installation, seeding, or eliminating lawn areas that don't earn their upkeep - **Meadows and low-mow** — increasingly popular on larger Chester County properties ## Design first Every one of our projects starts with a scaled site plan showing existing conditions, hardscape, and planting zones. We think about: - How the yard reads from inside the house — from every window that matters - How it reads at ground level, standing on the patio - Sight lines to the pool, to the neighbor, to the road - Sun and shade patterns through the year - Drainage and irrigation zones - Long-term size — nothing that outgrows its spot in five years ## Built with the whole yard Landscape design is the final layer on our [pool projects](/services/inground-pools/), [remodels](/services/pool-remodeling/), and [hardscape builds](/services/patios-walkways/). We coordinate irrigation, [landscape lighting](/services/landscape-lighting/), and grading during earlier phases so nothing has to be dug up to add planting later. ## Serving your neighborhood We design and plant landscapes across Frazer, Malvern, Chester Springs, Downingtown, West Chester, Wayne, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Gladwyne, Bala Cynwyd, Media, Chadds Ford, Newtown Square, and the surrounding Main Line and Chester County neighborhoods. Frequently asked questions

Do I need a full landscape design, or can I just plant some things?
If you're planting one bed, hire a good garden center. If you're designing a whole yard around a new pool, patio, or pavilion, invest in real design — otherwise the planting will fight the hardscape instead of finishing it.
What plants work best around pools?
Species with clean drop, non-invasive roots, and low mess — most pool surrounds do well with ornamental grasses, boxwood, hydrangea, and select evergreens. We avoid heavy fruiters, invasive-root trees, and anything that sheds constantly.
Can you screen a neighbor with plantings?
Yes. Fast-growing evergreen screens (arborvitae, Green Giant, cryptomeria, holly) or layered mixed screens are one of the most common requests we handle. On sloped Chester County properties we often pair with a retaining wall.
Do you maintain what you plant?
Our focus is design and installation, not weekly maintenance. We install with sufficient soil prep, mulch, and irrigation guidance to give the planting the best possible start.
